Employment History

  • Self Employed – I started as an Airbrush Artist  in the tourist town of Ft. Walton Beach at the age of 13.  Within two years I became of the highest compensated artists out of about 50 on the “Strip” of the tourist downtown district.  The next year I won Airbrush Action Magazine’s first high school artist competition, I was published in the magazine, then hired to attend  seminars hosted by the magazine as an assistant instructor to the industry’s top artists.  Through College I pained for extra cash setting up at regional malls and even Ron Jon’s Surf Shop.  When I graduated college, I dropped all art and became an engineer at a defense contractor.
  • Harris Corporation – I worked for this defense contractor for may years until life in a cubicle drove me crazy. I programmed for embedded software, networks, user interfaces, satellite communication, and all sorts of things I cannot talk about. I worked on many systems that are in use today by the military and every time I see a Navy ship on a movie or TV, I see things I have built. It was a lot of fun until I lived 2 weeks aboard the USS Constellation and got catapulted off the deck in a mail plane in the Pacific. So I got the Navy experience without ever having to join.
  • Immersive Networks - This was my first shot at entrepreneurship. Really it was more of a vacation from cubicle life. This is when I bought my first domains and started developing web sites for local companies. It lasted a year or so. It was enough time for me to understand the difference between collecting paychecks in your account as an engineer versus being an entrepreneur. I will have to say it was an incredible education on what to do and what not to do.
  • Indian River Consulting Group (IRCG) – Through friends I was referred to become the CTO of a boutique consulting firm run by wholesale distribution guru, J. Michael Marks. This is where I honed my speaking, writing, and consulting skills in between developing enterprise wide applications that supported remote collaboration. As Harris educated me to the large corporate workforce world and Immersive Networks educated me to the small business/entrepreneur world, IRCG educated me at the executive level. I never dealt with anyone under the VP level with any other company; it’s a world few get to see unless they climb the corporate ladder for several years. So I go to see behind the curtain of many companies over many industries and through that I was able to start thinking strategically versus tactically at the corporate level.
  • Current! Canned Web – I left IRCG but retained them as a client for my own company doing web development and consulting. This is the start of my full time affair with any and everything on the Internet. I gained a few national clients but most were in the Central Florida area. Here is where I applied everything I knew in my past from hardware to software to business to make everything work. Canned Web works closely with my other two businessinterests: Brand Excellent and IAIMS.
  • Current! Brand Excellent (BE) – This is a joint company with Fred Roth created for the purpose of providing marketing and consulting services in Florida. These services include web design, web hosting, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) / Search Engine Marketing (SEM), graphic design, and consulting. BE employs full time designers, programmers, and customer support for its clients.
  • Current! Insurance Agent Internet Marketing Systems (IAIMS) - This is a joint company with Carl Moulton created for the purpose of building national marketing tools for Insurance Agents. Carl, an Insurance Agent himself, help formed the mission of IAIMS: to build systems and strategic alliances that help save the Agency Distribution Channel.
